General:
Enterprises that are connected to municipal networks and whose wastewater contains process water need an emission permit. The application will be considered by the Norwegian Environment Agency in connection with other emission permit applications, or by the county governor as a separate emission permit application.
The county governor processes cases concerning the food industry and laundries, as well as enterprises for which regulations give the county governor decision-making powers.
In addition to the requirements laid down by the Norwegian Environment Agency, the municipality, as owner of the sewerage/wastewater system, can also stipulate certain requirements. It has been established that the municipality can stipulate requirements to protect equipment or processes.
Purpose
The purpose of the permit is to protect the environment against adverse effects of process water discharges.
