Authorisation to use vehicles
All vehicles require separate authorisation to be used on the national rail network, including trams and subways, heritage railways and sidings. Notice describing the vehicle/project must be sent to the Norwegian Railway Authority at an early stage of the process. In connection with this notice, feedback will be provided about what authorisation will be necessary.

Anyone intending to use vehicles on the national rail network, underground railways, suburban railways, tramways, heritage railways and sidings.
Sections 12-8 and 12-9 of the Requirements Regulations, Sections 34 and 35 of the Heritage Railway Regulations, and Sections 37 and 38 of the Sidings Regulations state the type of documentation that has to be submitted for the notice and application.
In order to commission vehicles on the national railway network, and for trams and underground railways, heritage railways and sidings, the applicant must send notice to the Norwegian Railway Authority of the procurement of or modification to a vehicle In the event of procurement, an application must also be sent to the Norwegian Railway Authority. In the event of modifications, the Norwegian Railway Authority shall assess whether an application is required.
