Surveys for petroleum
All companies that wish to commence surveys for petroleum must have a survey license from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

Companies that intend to commence surveys for petroleum.
Information regarding the documentation that has to be enclosed with the survey license application can be found in Section 3 of the Regulations to the Act relating to Petroleum Activities.
Survey licenses are granted by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate within the areas of the Norwegian Continental Shelf that are open to petroleum activities and that have not been awarded through a production license.
A survey license does not grant exclusive rights to petroleum activities in the area in question, but does grant the right to conduct geological, geophysical, geochemical and geotechnical activities
Fee
An advance fee must be paid to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for a survey license. A fee must also be paid for each seismic survey. The applicable rates can be found in the Regu
lations to the Act relating to petroleum activities.
