Apply for a permit to work with asbestos
All enterprises intending to work with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials must apply for a permit for such work from the Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet).
The application form is only in Norwegian.
All companies intending to work with asbestos must obtain a permit from the Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet). This applies to demolition, repair, maintenance and other handling of materials containing asbestos. The requirement also applies where there is suspicion of materials containing asbestos.
Your application must include information on
- your enterprise’s experience in working with asbestos
- what type of permit you are applying for
- the methods you will be using
- how you will organise and manage the work
- training of employees (with uploading of individual course certificates)
- whether the employees have been found fit to work with asbestos by a doctor following a health examination
In addition, you must include instructions for the work with asbesto. The instructions must cover the type of asbestos work for which you are applying for a permit. You must also include any statements from a safety delegate or employee representative, working environment committee and occupational health service.

As well as applying for a permit to work with asbestos, you must also send a notification to the Labour Inspection Authority before each asbestos assignment (only in Norwegian, arbeidstilsynet.no).
