Notice of work with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials
Enterprises with a permit to work with asbestos must send a notification to the Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet) each time before they commence work. The notification must be sent as early as possible and no later than one week before work commences.
See Send melding om arbeid med asbest – in Norwegian (arbeidstilsynet.no) for guidance on completing the form.
All enterprises that are authorised to work with asbestos and asbestos-containing materials must send in this form prior to commencing any asbestos work.
In emergency situations, such as a break in an asbestos-containing water pipes, the enterprise may carry out the work and then submit the form as soon as practically possible.
In the notification, you must provide information about
- where you will be working with asbestos (location of the workplace)
- when you will be carrying out the work (start and end dates)
- what materials you will be handling
- what work you will be doing (including methods and activities relating to, among other things, worker protection, cleaning, waste management and air replacement for indoor work)
- the workers who are likely to carry out the work
- provide the name of each individual worker (upload individual course certificates in working with asbestos)
- provide the date of the last health examination carried out
- what measures and equipment you have in place to limit workers' exposure to asbestos
- what measures you have in place to prevent pollution
You must submit a notification of work with asbestos because the Labour Inspection Authority must be able to assess whether the work is planned in compliance with the regulations before you start.
Only employees with special training are allowed to work with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials.
