Exploration permit

An exploration permit is a right to undertake necessary exploration at a specific area in order to assess the commercial viability of the mineral deposits. Companies requesting the right to explore mineral deposits owned by the State must apply for an exploration permit. Only one exploration permit may be granted in the same area.

About this form

A party that wishes to obtain the right to explore deposits of minerals owned by the State, must apply to the Directorate of Mining for an exploration permit.

The documentation that must be enclosed with the application is stipulated in Section 1-1 of the Regulations to the Minerals Act.

An exploration permit can be granted for an area that is a maximum of 10 kmĀ² in size, with no side being shorter than 1 km, and the exploration area must be parallel to the UTM principal axis system.

Merknader:

In order for the exploration permit to be maintained, the exploring party must pay an annual fee to the State.
The exploration permit will expire when seven years have passed from the date the application was approved or when the extended deadline that can be granted pursuant to Section 23 of the Minerals Act has expired.
