Persons who need a a class A or class B diving licence.

Persons who are to carry out diving activities must hold a class A or class B diving licence.

Diving licences are issued on the basis of completed training. You can find more detailed information about the qualification requirements for various diving licences in Sections 26-20 and 26-21 of the Regulations relating to Conduct of Work. The duration of the training shall be at least seven weeks for class A, and at least nine weeks for class B.

The medical certificate must be renewed annually in order for the diving licence to remain valid.

Courses are held by Bergen University College. Other private undertakings may also hold such courses, provided that they meet the requirements set out in the Regulations relating to Conduct of Work and the Regulations relating to Administrative Arrangements.

The diving certificate scheme was discontinued with effect from 1 January 2013. The Diver Education Department at Bergen University College was responsible for the administration and issuing of diving certificates on behalf of the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority. The scheme comprised the certificate classes S, R, I and III for inshore diving. Until further notice, the certificate administration unit at Bergen University College will be responsible for work relating to existing certificates, i.e. registration of medical certificates for divers and issuing of duplicate diplomas.
