Approval of strong laser pointers

The light from a strong laser is extremely dangerous to the eyes. The damage can occur even before you are able to blink. Strong laser pointers require approval from the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA).

About this form

Enterprises and persons who have a legitimate need to use strong laser pointers.

It is prohibited to own, possess, manufacture, import, export, entrust, handle, use and sell class 3R, 3B and 4 laser pointers without the approval of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority.

Approval is only granted if:

a) the applicant can document that the laser pointer has been designed, classified and labelled in accordance with the requirements stipulated in Section 35 of the Radiation Protection Regulations,
b) the applicant can document that intended use of the laser pointer is legitimate pursuant to Section 5 of the Radiation Protection Regulations, and
c) there is no reason to assume that the laser pointer will be misused.
Approval can be granted to both enterprises and individuals. Approval can include multiple laser pointers and may be time-limited.
